eSentire buys AI-security startup for user-level AI monitoring in Atlas

eSentire has acquired a stealth-mode AI-security startup and integrated its technology into Atlas, adding tools that link AI conversations, spending and security events to individual users, teams and workstations, according to the company’s September 15 statement.

The acquisition included the startup’s team and product. Chief Executive James C. Foster said the technology shipped inside Atlas within weeks. The resulting module, Atlas AIDR, sits within Atlas Detect and is generally available to customers and partners.

Security teams can use the module to review conversation timelines and the inputs and outputs of tools called by AI agents. Its financial tracking breaks down usage costs by user, team and model, with custom budgets and automated alerts. eSentire says the module works alongside customers’ existing AI providers and security tools.

The controls go beyond recording activity. According to eSentire, Atlas AIDR can redact personally identifiable information before it reaches an AI model, screen for prompt injections and enforce custom business rules while requests are being processed. It also tracks the external servers and tools that autonomous agents use, including changes in server descriptions or behavior.

Those protections differ by how employees access AI. The company says browser-based activity, such as use of a web-based assistant, can be seen and inventoried through existing monitoring data. The more granular controls that act on AI requests apply at the desktop layer through Atlas AIDR.
