Privacy

Reading headcount.news does not require an account and does not require you to give us any personal information. HEADCOUNT does not sell reader data and does not run advertising or personalised tracking on its pages.

The Morning Brief

The only reader information HEADCOUNT collects is what you enter yourself when you sign up for the Morning Brief: an email address, and a first name if you choose to give one. It is optional. We record that you consented, when, and which page you signed up from, so we can show that the subscription was requested.

That address is used to send the Morning Brief and nothing else. It is not sold, rented or shared for marketing.

Unsubscribing

Every Morning Brief carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately — one click, no questions and no preference maze. An unsubscribed address is suppressed: signing it up again from a form on this site will not restart the emails. HEADCOUNT keeps a record of the original consent and of the unsubscribe for compliance, and nothing else.

Morning Brief emails contain no tracking pixels and no rewritten click-tracking links. The mail provider that delivers them reports whether a message was delivered, bounced or marked as spam, and HEADCOUNT uses those reports only to stop sending to addresses that should not receive mail.

Traffic measurement

HEADCOUNT measures how many people read the site using a privacy-conscious, cookieless measurement service. It counts page views and records the kind of information that arrives with any web request — the page visited, the site that linked to it, the country, and the browser and device type. It does not set cookies, does not store anything on your device, does not build a profile of you and is not used for advertising. Links HEADCOUNT shares on social platforms may carry standard campaign tags (utm_source and the like) so we can tell which post sent readers here; they identify the post, not the reader.
