Microsoft hires AWS energy-policy manager for global sustainability role

Microsoft has hired Ray Fakhoury III from Amazon Web Services as director of global energy and sustainability policy, adding an AWS energy-policy manager to its global energy operation, according to Data Center Dynamics.

Fakhoury spent almost three years as AWS’s manager of energy policy and is due to start at Microsoft in October, DCD reported, citing his LinkedIn announcement. He previously held senior management positions at Pattern Energy Group and Advanced Energy Economy.

The appointment lands alongside other Microsoft recruiting efforts in energy. In January, Paul Sari, Microsoft’s director of global carbon-free energy, advertised three carbon-free program manager openings in a LinkedIn post: two focused on the Americas and Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and one on Asia-Pacific. In February, he shared a separate Asia-Pacific carbon-free origination opening, seeking candidates with energy experience in the region’s markets.

Sari describes his team’s work on his LinkedIn profile as structuring carbon-free energy agreements with utilities and developers around the world. His own career included renewable energy origination and asset management at Avangrid Renewables before joining Microsoft.

A July recruiting post by Jim Collins, reshared on LinkedIn by Microsoft policy manager Gilda Amorosi, sought a senior director for the Global Energy Markets team in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
