cfo.ai launches Ari to model hiring plans against cash

The former Runway says the AI finance tool can investigate hiring ahead of forecast and lets founders inspect and revise the assumptions underneath its answers.

cfo.ai, formerly Runway, launched Ari on Sept. 10, an AI finance tool that puts hiring plans inside a cash model for founders. The company says Ari can model the cash impact of hiring decisions, investigate when staffing moves ahead of plan, connect to financial and operating systems, and maintain an updated model of the business.

Marketed as an AI CFO for founders, Ari is built around the kind of question that turns a hiring plan into a runway issue. In one scenario in the company’s announcement, a founder asks what happens to ending cash if sales and marketing hiring slips by a quarter. Ari is designed to identify the hiring assumptions, trace their effect through operating expenses and cash, and model the consequences across future quarters. Founders can then test further changes, including holding enterprise hiring.

The company says Ari also monitors the business without waiting for a question. It can investigate cash falling below plan or hiring running ahead of forecast and alert the founder to the underlying causes. Its listed connections include Rippling, ADP, NetSuite and QuickBooks.

Behind the tool is Reambase, a calculation engine built for AI agents. Rather than relying primarily on spreadsheet coordinates, it organizes values by named business variables and dimensions. Salary, for example, can be associated with an employee, department and month, while the engine handles formulas and recalculation.

Founders retain access to the model after receiving an answer. They can inspect it and change assumptions themselves; those edits become part of the model Ari uses for subsequent work.
