AVS Bio buys Biorbyt for million-SKU catalog and ecommerce channel

AVS Bio has acquired Biorbyt Ltd., adding an ecommerce channel, more than 1 million research-product SKUs and a Cambridge, UK, reagent business that will remain under existing leadership, according to a September 23 company announcement. The Arlington Capital Partners portfolio company said the purchase expands both its biomaterials offering and its ability to reach customers globally.

Based in Norwich, Connecticut, AVS Bio supplies biological materials and services used to develop and manufacture vaccines, therapeutics and biologics. It operates more than 20 facilities across North America and Europe.

Founded in 2011, Biorbyt sells antibodies, proteins and other research reagents to pharmaceutical companies, biotech businesses and academic institutions. AVS Bio plans to give customers access to the businesses’ complementary products through a single integrated channel. Biorbyt co-founders Dr. Tillmann Ziegert and Qun Yang also identified the acquired company’s data-driven commercial tools as part of the combined offering.

Arlington partner Malcolm Little said the acquisition supports the investor’s goal of building a life-sciences business that serves customers across the research and development lifecycle. He cited Biorbyt’s scientific and commercial leadership expertise alongside its digital commerce capabilities. Biorbyt will continue operating under its existing leadership within AVS Bio.
